THE SCROLL OF THE ROOFTOP SCHISM

An Epic of Bam the Unshaken and Sam the Shadow-Handed

In the waning heat of a summer evening, when the air hung thick with the scent of porch wood and the promise of mischief, the Pantheon gathered upon the High Roof — a place of sunlit glory by day and whispered conspiracies by night.

There stood Bam the Bold, daughter of Boots and Mittens, she of the white-marked paws and the unbreakable spirit. For weeks she had walked the roof with the pride of a warrior queen, though her heart carried a quiet tension — a feud unspoken, a rivalry unnamed.

Across from her lurked Sam the Uncertain, whose mind was a storm of impulses and whose paws acted before thought could catch them. Between Bam and Sam, the air crackled with the kind of animosity only cats can maintain: silent, simmering, and impossible to prove.

Below, three witnesses watched:

  • Calypso the Silent, who sees all but speaks nothing.

  • Dan the Gentle, who tries to mend what he does not understand.

  • Luna the Whisperer, who will tell the tale only to the shadows.

None would later confess what they saw.

The Fall

As Mocha was carried inside by Heart Mother, a sound split the air:

A screech, sharp as a lightning strike. A boom, heavy as a god’s fist. A rattle, the thick glass table crying out in shock.

Heart Mother turned — and beheld Bam rising from the table’s edge, dazed but alive, fury burning in her eyes like twin suns.

She climbed with the stubborn dignity of a queen who refuses to die, her pride bruised but her body unbroken.

Dan approached with soft concern, but Bam rejected him with a hiss of wounded honor. Calypso looked away. Luna blinked once, storing the memory for future gossip.

And above them all, peering over the roof’s lip, stood Sam.

His face held the expression of a mortal who has just discovered the consequences of his own paws:

“Did I do that?”

Not guilt. Not innocence. Just the bewildered awe of a creature who nudged the world and watched it fall.

The Aftermath

Heart Mother carried Bam inside, to the sacred dish of calm and comfort. There, Bam’s rage melted, her breath steadied, and her spirit returned to its throne.

No bones broken. No wounds found. Only pride — dented but not defeated.

The feud, however, remains.

For though Sam’s guilt cannot be proven, the Pantheon knows:

Where there is chaos, Sam’s shadow is never far behind.
